Career Action Plan - 本科 Students

第一年

  • Visit the 职业发展服务 to learn about the resources available to you (career coaching, workshops, 兼职工作, 校园就业, 实习、职业相关活动等).
  • 完成”我的下一步行动” to identify your interests and how they relate to your major and career and take FOCUS 2 自我评估，探索职业选择.
  • Unsure what to major in or what to do with your major check out 这个专业我能做什么?
  • Visit the 专业勘探中心 or attend the Majors Fair in the Spring to explore how your academic interests align with majors at ODU.
  • 至少加入一个 学生组织 that interests you to establish peer relationships and gain transferable skills.
  • 激活你的 Handshake account. 激活你的 Handshake account to make an appointment with a career coach and gain access to jobs and career events.

  • Engage in experiential learning opportunities. 考虑研究, 志愿服务, 兼职工作, micro-实习, or 服务学习.

  • Schedule a career coaching session through Handshake to research careers that match your interests, skills, 和能力.
  • Learn how to write a resume and cover letter in a career coaching session and upload your resume to Handshake.

  • 参加CDS职业相关活动, including the Internship and Career Fairs, information sessions/tables, etc. to learn more about 就业 的机会, and networking with employers
  • Participate in career and professional development workshops and events to assist in your professional development growth
  • Create a LinkedIn的资料, start building your professional network, and visit CDS 为了你的专业大头照
  • 与校友建立联系 LinkedIn to ask professional questions about your future career through an informational interview.
  • 探索握手实习, jobs, on-campus opportunities to obtain worked-based experience in the world of work.
  • 继续参与a 学生组织 并承担起领导角色.

第三年

  • Schedule at least two mock interview sessions using Career Commons or scheduling through Handshake to improve your interview skills and gain more confidence
  • 更新你的 LinkedIn  with information about your new experiences and visit CDS 为了你的专业大头照
  • 参加CDS职业相关活动，包括招聘会和合作实习 & 实习展等.
  • Conduct informational interviews or job shadow with alumni in your specific field of interest.
  • 探索并参与 education abroad 的机会, LeADERS, research, micro-实习 etc.
  • Seek a leadership role in your 学生组织 or 就业.
  • 计划好你想要的时间 GRE, LSAT, or GMAT tests to ensure you have enough time to study
  • 完成 GRE, LSAT, or GMAT in preparation for graduate school (if applicable).
  • Identify your professional references and begin to request your letters of recommendations.
  • Visit your professor’s office hours and schedule a 与你的导师会面.
  • Reflect on your experience so far and reassess any changes that need to be made for your personal career action plan
  • Build and maintain your academic and professional relationships
  • Identify 2-3 kinds of jobs/work you are interested in

第四年

  • 给求职者:
    • 更新你的 resume in Handshake and apply for relevant positions.
    • Start researching companies for which you would like to work.
    • Schedule a career coaching session to finalize your job seeking strategies.
    • 参加CDS职业相关活动, including the Career Fairs, employer information sessions, etc.
  • 研究生院申请人:
    • Submit your graduate school application(s).
    • Submit your letters of recommendation and test scores
    • Schedule at least two mock interview sessions
    • 继续建立你的人际网络 LinkedIn.
  • Use Handshake to find 2- 5 full-time job descriptions that you would be interested in applying to and practice tailoring your documents to each position
  • Attend a workshop or watch a LinkedIn Learning course on Salary Negotiation.
  • Begin applying and interviewing for full-time positions in the fall semester (or) apply to graduate or professional schools.
